Annual inflation rate in Brazil increased to 2.86 percent in May 2018

Brazil's annual inflation rate carried on it's upward trend as it rose from 2.76 percent to 2.86 precent Year on Year.  The markets were expecting a small decline, but it rose due to rising fuel costs (gasoline and diesel).  It's the highest rate since January, but much closer to all time lows than the record highs and well off the average rate of 354 percent.

On a monthly basis, prices rose by 0.4 percent, after a 0.22 rise themonth earlier. Housing was the most significant increase, followed by transport, then food and beverages.
